When conventional glasses don't work, there's a specialized solution.
In our practice, we combine the expertise of a cornea specialist and a contact lens specialist to fit rigid and scleral contact lenses to patients with:
Keratoconus
Corneal Transplants
Previous Refractive Surgeries (LASIK, RK, PRK)
Severe Dry Eye
Complex Corneal Irregularities
Poor Contact Lens Tolerance
You've Been Told There's No Solution
Diagnosis by a Cornea Specialist Ophthalmologist
Advanced Fitting by a Specialized Optometrist
Management of Complex Cases
Rigid gas permeable and scleral contact lenses are medical devices designed to:
Correct corneal irregularities
Improve visual acuity
Protect the ocular surface
Scleral lenses, in particular, create a tear reservoir between the lens and the cornea, allowing for:
Improved vision in irregular corneas
Greater comfort than conventional rigid contact lenses
Protection in cases of severe dry eye
Not all patients can be properly fitted at a conventional optician's.
This is where our difference lies:
Comprehensive Ophthalmological and Optometric Evaluation
Diagnosis of Corneal Pathology
Collaborative Work
Specialized Cornea Ophthalmology
Advanced Optometry for Contact Lenses
Each lens is designed according to the patient's anatomy and pathology.
This is especially important in complex cases such as keratoconus or transplantation.
Optical Precision in Early Stages and Selected Cases
Rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses are a fundamental tool in the visual rehabilitation of patients with corneal diseases, especially in early stages or when adequate corneal adaptation is still possible.
Thanks to their design, they create a regular optical surface on the cornea, improving visual quality by neutralizing corneal irregularities.
In patients with mild to moderate keratoconus, rigid contact lenses are often an excellent first option.
They allow:
Improved visual quality in the early stages of the disease
Highly precise correction of irregular astigmatism
Delaying the need for scleral lenses in some patients
Maintaining good visual acuity in patients with adequate tolerance
They are especially useful in early stages, when the cornea still allows for stable corneal adaptation.
After a corneal transplant, some patients may benefit from rigid contact lenses, particularly when the irregularity is moderate.
Rigid contact lenses allow for:
Improved visual quality in selected cases
Correcting corneal irregularities without the need for more complex lenses
Maintaining good corneal oxygenation
However, in more complex irregularities, they may not be sufficient and scleral lenses may be required.
In cases of mild corneal irregularity after refractive surgery, rigid contact lenses can be an effective option.
They allow for:
Improved visual quality in mild irregularities
Compensation for minor corneal aberrations
Avoiding additional procedures in selected cases
In more advanced irregularities or ectasia, they are generally less well-tolerated than scleral lenses.
Unlike scleral lenses, rigid contact lenses do not have a therapeutic effect on the ocular surface.
In patients with dry eye:
They may be less well-tolerated.
They may increase discomfort.
They require a thorough prior evaluation of the ocular surface.
Therefore, in cases of moderate to severe dry eye, other alternatives such as scleral lenses are often preferred.
Visual Rehabilitation in Complex Cases
Scleral lenses are an advanced tool in the visual rehabilitation of patients with corneal diseases, especially when conventional lenses or glasses do not provide adequate vision.
Thanks to their design, they create a regular optical surface on the cornea and a tear reservoir, improving both vision and the health of the ocular surface.
In patients with moderate and advanced keratoconus, scleral lenses represent one of the best non-surgical options.
They allow:
Significant improvement of visual quality in irregular corneas
More precise correction of irregular astigmatism than other lenses
Reduced dependence on poorly tolerated rigid corneal lenses
Optimization of visual function in patients undergoing follow-up or after crosslinking
In many cases, they are the alternative before considering a corneal transplant.
After a corneal transplant, it is common for the surface to remain irregular, limiting vision with glasses or conventional contact lenses.
Scleral lenses allow for:
Recovering vision that is not achieved with traditional correction
Improving optical regularity without further corneal surgery
Protecting the graft by maintaining a hydrated and stable environment
Reducing mechanical friction on the corneal surface
They are a key tool in post-transplant visual rehabilitation.
In some patients, corneal irregularities or ectasia may appear after refractive surgery.
In these cases, scleral lenses:
Represent the main non-surgical alternative
Allow for the recovery of high-quality functional vision
Compensate for irregularities of the corneal surface
In many cases, avoid the need for additional procedures
Scleral lenses not only correct vision but also have a therapeutic effect.
They function as a "hydration chamber" by maintaining a constant tear film over the cornea.
This allows for:
Reduction of symptoms such as burning, irritation, and fluctuating vision
Protection of the ocular surface in severe cases
Improved visual comfort during the day
Promoting tear film stability
They are especially useful in patients with severe dry eye or ocular surface diseases.
Not all patients are immediate candidates.
Evaluation is required in cases such as:
Active infections
Poor eye hygiene
Poor adherence to lens use
Patient safety is always our priority.
We offer specialized evaluations in Mexico City, focusing on complex patients who require:
Accurate diagnosis
Advanced fitting
Close follow-up
We are a specialized eye care unit in Mexico City, focused on corneal management, refractive surgery, and advanced contact lens fitting.
Our approach combines:
Highly specialized ophthalmology in cornea
Advanced optometry in contact lenses
Management of complex and individualized cases
The project is led by an ophthalmologist with national and international training:
Medical degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)
Ophthalmology residency at the Gregorio Marañón University General Hospital
Advanced specialization in cornea and refractive surgery at the Conde de Valenciana Foundation Hospital
In addition, he holds certifications that validate his international expertise:
International Council of Ophthalmology
European Board of Ophthalmology
Mexican Council of Ophthalmology
This guarantees a practice based on international standards and scientific evidence.
The optometric aspect focuses on:
Advanced contact lens fitting
Management of patients from pediatric to geriatric
Specialization in:
Rigid gas permeable lenses
Scleral lenses
Irregular corneas and ocular pathologies
Always working in conjunction with medical evaluation.
Unlike a traditional model (optics shop or isolated consultation room), we offer:
Medical diagnosis + advanced fitting in the same environment
This allows us to:
Accurately evaluate corneal diseases
Choose the best treatment (not just lenses)
Fit custom lenses in complex cases
Provide comprehensive patient follow-up
Not all patients are candidates for the same treatment
We prioritize diagnostic accuracy over volume
Each case is analyzed individually
We don't fit "fast" lenses
We don't seek generic solutions
We prioritize diagnosis, safety, and long-term results
The goal is not just to "put on lenses," but to
restore the best possible visual quality safely and with a personalized approach
